About 50 kilometers north of Malaga on the fertile plateau of the Guadalhorce River lies Antequera, whose origins stretch back to the Bronze Age. This is attested to by the Conjunto Dolmenico on the edge of town, comprised of Cueva de Menga, de Viera and del Romeral. These chambers hidden inside man-made hills are believed to have been cultic and burial sites. The largest dolmen, consisting of stones weighing as much as 180 tons, is 25 meters in length. |
